The artists in Material Woman share an interest in exploration and transformation of everyday materials, some historically associated with feminine hands and some newly provocative and gender-free.
Each of the artists represented here is an alchemist who transforms the substance of daily life into something that is other, into the mysterious.
Historically this was often done in a community, in a circle of women. Healing flows within those circles – into each other, our families and into the community at large.
